Original research in neuro infections evaluation of newer tests, evaluation of efficacy of Japanese B encephalitis vaccine, unavailing importance of neurocysticercosis (parasitic infestation) as the commonest cause of acquired seizures/epilepsy in healthy Indian.

Malnutrition and brain development, childhood epilepsy and neurocysticercosis. The results of these clinical researches have been extensively followed throughout the country. Contributed to development and monitoring of social programmes for weaker section, women and tribal areas for over six years. Honoured with Presidentship of Asian and Oceanian Child Neurology Association and Chairperson for International Child Neurology Association. Child neurology developed from scratch to this current well recognized international position today.

Impact of the contributions in the field concerned, basic or applied :
Demonstration of significantly elevated blood lead levels in healthy school children was the first pointer to the gravity of environmental lead and the need to reduce lead in petrol (our research result provided core data)

Neurocysticercosis as a cause of childhood epilepsy recognized as the commonest cause of convulsions in healthy school children was demonstrated for the first time in the country.

In childhood malnutrition the co-existence of reduced Vit E levels and its consequences on brain development was demonstrated. Supplementation reversed some neurological deficits. The need to supplement Vit E in childhood malnutrition, afflicting almost 30% of the Indian population, is a crucial research.

Institution of DM Pediatric Neurology in the country (first centre to introduce the course).

Development of large number monographs for patient friendly community use (lead, neurocysticercosis, learning disability, epilepsy, autism, development through activity) information on neuro diseases and medical books / chapters

Contribution to books/chapters

Recognition of frequency of learning disability and autism in the Indian context, hitherto unrecognized.

Development of multimedia training kit for use in the Indian context copyrighted and used extensively.

Participation in International research on neuro muscular diseases, childhood disabilities, Rett syndrome and childhood epilepsy.
