He has a special interest in Medical Oncology/Hematology and the medical interactions with other clinical branches and basic sciences. He is very interested in the field of developmental therapeutics and clinical research. This has integrated projects involving all the branches of clinical oncology as well as basic research. He also has an interest in biological therapeutics targeting various molecular targets on the cancer cells. He has been the pioneer in establishing Bone Marrow Transplantation in India. He is the recipient of the PADMASHRI and PADMABHUSHAN awards from the Government of India and the Dhanvantari Award for outstanding contributions to Medicine, Lifetime Achievement in Oncology in 2005.
Dr. S H Advani is a famous oncologist who pioneered stem cell transplantation in Mumbai as well as all over India. He studied at Grant Medical College, Mumbai and then completed his Masters in oncology. He gained experience in the field of bone marrow transplantation from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle, Washington.
Dr. Suresh Advani is a leading oncologist of India with 25 years of experience. Since 1974 he has been involved with Medical Oncology / Hematology with strong interaction with other clinical branches and basic scientists. The pioneer of bone marrow transplant in India, he was awarded the Dhanvantri Award in 2002 and the Padmashri in 2003 for his contribution in the field of scientific research in medical oncology.
Dr. Suresh is known to be the first oncologist in India to have successfully done a bone-marrow transplant. He transplanted bone marrow into a nine-year-old girl down with myeloid leukemia, from her brother.
