Dr. Sumit Singh, a distinguished graduate of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and recipient of the BL SONI Gold Medal, commenced his tenure as a faculty member at the institute in 2000. In 2002, he pioneered the establishment of the first Headache Clinic within the government sector in India at AIIMS. Renowned for his expertise in headache disorders, he played a crucial role in co-authoring the headache management guidelines tailored for the Indian subcontinent. That same year, he introduced the use of Botulinum toxin for headache treatment in India and subsequently expanded its application to patients suffering from trigeminal neuralgia. Dr. Singh is also recognized as a specialist in Parkinson’s disease, possessing extensive experience in patient planning and programming for Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery. His primary focus has been on movement disorders, and he is among the few practitioners in the country skilled in administering Botox for conditions such as Writer’s cramp, Spasmodic torticollis, various dystonias, hemifacial spasm, and blepharospasm, in addition to managing spasticity with Botox. He has conducted significant research in Myasthenia gravis and Multiple sclerosis, having modified plasma exchange protocols for these conditions. From 2009 to 2016, Dr. Singh served as the additional director of Neurology at Medanta the Medicity, where he led the Movement Disorders and Headache programs. He has authored 104 publications in peer-reviewed journals and contributed 14 chapters to various books.
