Dr. Randhir Sud, chairman of the Department of Digestive and Hepatobiliary Sciences, is a distinguished doctor of gastroenterology. He worked to establish therapeutic gastrointestinal endoscopy in India. He started the Gastrointestinal Oncology program in India. In 2008, he won the Padmashri Award for his contribution to gastroenterology. His expertise lies in gastrointestinal endoscopy, gastrointestinal cancers and liver diseases. He began his career as a junior resident in January 1979 at AIIMS, New Delhi. He also served as a senior resident between 1982 and 1984 at AIIMS. He then served as a GE consultant at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi in 1985. Dr. Randhir Sud has six years of experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students at AIIMS. He is a certified instructor and examiner for the National Diploma in Gastroenterology Examination conducted by the National Examination Council. The French Dr. Randhir Sud also taught at Harvard Boston School of Medicine as a visiting professor in 1999. In 2005, he was also named as a visiting professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas and the University of Alabama, Birmingham, Alabama ( United States). As a medical student, Dr. Randhir Sud received the degree of M.B.B.S. at the Government Medical College, Amritsar in 1977. Dr. Randhir Sud continued his studies and became an M.D. in 1983. During his student years he won many gold and other medals for his performance in medical examinations.
