Dr. Praveen Chandra is a leading Indian cardiologist and Head of the Department of Interventional Cardiology at Medanta Medicity, Gurgaon, India. He is recognized as one of the leaders of angioplasty in the country and has mastered many new devices and technologies. He was awarded for his success and achievements in the field of medicine with Padma Shri in 2016 by the President of India. He was also Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Acute Myocardial Infarction Services at Max Healthcare and a consultant cardiologist at Escorts Heart Institute and Research Center, New Delhi. He is a member of the Interventional Endovascular Society of India and the Asia-Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology. Dr. Chandra has been a distinguished faculty member at various international meetings and was the organizer and director of the AMI course held in New Delhi in 2005 and 2006. He has published about 100 articles, reviews and abstracts in various national and international journals. He received the prestigious recognition award for success and achievements in the field of Angioplasty in India in 1998. This is the first time he has performed percutaneous aortic valve implantation without surgery in India. He also performed the first percutaneous mitral valve repair. These two activities have important implications in our country, which has the largest number of valve cases in the world. He was also the first to use the Angio Jet thrombectomy device, started the percutaneous laser myocardial vascularization program in Asia and the first to use FFR and bioabsorbable stents in India.
