Dr. Ish Anand is a distinguished neurologist, a brilliant clinician, a teacher par excellence and a renowned neuro-electro physiologist. Dr. Ish Anand is presently the Vice-Chairperson and Senior Consultant, Department of Neurology, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi.
Born on 17th February 1961, Dr. Ish Anand obtained his medical graduation degree (MBBS) in 1985 from prestigious Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi. He did Diploma in Tuberculosis in Chest diseases (DTCD) in 1988 from V. P. Chest Institute, University of Delhi. He did his post-graduation in Internal Medicine (MD) in 1990 from Maulana Azad Medical College and associated Loknayak Jaiprakash Narain Hospital, New Delhi. He completed his DM in Neurology in 1993 from G. B. Pant Hospital, New Delhi. Then he went to Cleveland in USA in 1995 to do a two year Fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology and Epilepsy from world renowned Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
He came back to join as Consultant in Department of Neurology in 1997 in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi. This is a 650 bedded multispecialty hospital. Poor patients are treated free of charge in 20% of these beds. The hospital runs free general OPDs in all the medical and surgical specialties. Dr. Anand is actively participating in all these activities. Beside patient care, he is doing clinical research and is teaching Neurology and Internal Medicine residents. He has undertaken clinical research projects related to Parkinsons disease, peripheral neuropathy, migraine headache, multiple sclerosis and acute stroke. He has written 33 publications and 11 book chapters. He started intraoperative prolonged EEG monitoring in patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy under general anesthesia for the first time in North India. He is an astute neurologist and is very well read. He is expert in handling acute neurological emergencies as well as chronic neurological disorders. He has special interest in headache management, epilepsy, stroke, movement disorders, nerve and muscle disorders, neck and back pain.
He has publications in national and international journals and has written on various neurological disorders affecting the third world countries like leprous neuropathy, AIDS, cyanocobalamin deficiency, porphyria, hereditary ataxias, choreoacanthocytosis, multiple intracranial granulomas, arsenic neuropathy, nocariosis of brain, decompressive hemicraniectomy and cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, to name a few. He has chaired many sessions in conferences and has given more than 80 presentations at various conferences at national and international level on wide range of topics related to neurology.
