During my undergraduate studies at Maulana Azad Medical College & Assoc Lok Narain Jaiprakash Hospital and postgraduate studies at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, where I completed my general surgery program, the my training takes place under the supervision of an excellent staff of teachers. . of national and international fame. The same continued after joining the CTVS department of the prestigious AIIMS, New Delhi. As a senior resident in the CTVS department
(AIMS), was responsible for actively participating in the pre- and post-operative care of patients. Managing new patients and following up with patients in clinics was a regular responsibility throughout my career. Supervising the new residents during their initial training was hard work from the start. I was actively involved in performing surgical operations, first under supervision, then independently, and accompanied the patient throughout the procedure until discharge from the ward. I have been associated with more than 1500 heart surgeries including coronary artery bypass grafts, valve replacements and correction of complex and simple congenital heart defects during my training program. Having joined EHIRC, New Delhi, first as a cardiac surgeon and then as a junior consultant in cardiac surgery, my experience has been enriched by handling all types of adult cardiac surgeries. In the past 3 years, our team has continued to perform mainly routine cardiac surgeries of adults, and specialized procedures, such as cardiac port surgery, repeat coronary artery bypass grafting, all the types of minimally invasive heart surgeries that treat coronary arteries and valves and robotic cardiac. surgery which was introduced for the first time at our facility in India. Our experience in robotic cardiac surgery is the highest in India. My interest in research dates back to my school days where I started dissecting different insects and small animals to learn the intricacies of living things. I drove
science club and various activities won me the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh award for my overall performance. My interest in research continued throughout my undergraduate and medical studies. My interest in sepsis led us to do animal research for the first time (Indian Council of Medical Research, ICMR Research Grant) to show a direct relationship between sepsis and free radicals. As I continue to teach in cardiac surgery, I have carried out various research projects including recently
the pathophysiology of heart valve disease in individuals with failure (ischemic mitral valve disease) for which I visited various centers in Minneapolis and San Francisco to learn the anatomy of the mitral valve in individuals with failure
