Dr. Anirban Deep Banerjee is a distinguished neurosurgeon renowned for his extensive expertise in Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, as well as Skull-base Neurosurgery. Previously, he served as a Senior Consultant in Neurosurgery and was the head of the Movement Disorder Clinic at the Institute of Neurosciences, Apollo Kolkata. Dr. Banerjee earned his MBBS from the University of Calcutta and completed his residency in Neurosurgery (M.Ch.) at NIMHANS. He further enhanced his qualifications by undertaking prestigious AANS-recognized fellowships in the United States, specializing in Skull-base Neurosurgery at Louisiana State University and Stereotactic & Functional Neurosurgery at the Cleveland Clinic.
His primary areas of interest encompass Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgical techniques for managing intractable movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease, Essential Tremor, and Dystonia, as well as spastic disorders including Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, and conditions resulting from head or spinal cord injuries and strokes. He also addresses psychiatric disorders like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and epilepsy. Dr. Banerjee was instrumental in establishing the first advanced Movement Disorder Clinic in Eastern India, which serves as a comprehensive center of excellence for Neuromodulation and Functional Neurosurgery.
To date, he has performed over 400 neuro-modulation surgeries, including more than 200 Deep Brain Stimulation procedures, and has contributed to the field with published innovations in novel skull-base neurosurgical techniques. His extensive experience also includes advanced micro-neurosurgical and neuro-endoscopic management of thousands of neurosurgical patients. Dr. Banerjee has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles in esteemed international and national journals, as well as neurosurgical textbooks. He is often invited as a visiting faculty member to conduct live surgical workshops and to establish deep brain stimulation surgery programs at various prestigious medical institutions, both in India and internationally. At the official invitation of the government of Bangladesh, he initiated a program to further advance these surgical techniques.
